Scenario: Mary likes to wear "sexy clothes" at work and is very "touchy feely", especially with her fellow male colleagues. Whenever Mary sees Tim she always touches his shoulder and leans into talk to him. Tim likes Mary behavior because he likes the smell of her perfume, the view of cleavage and the way she stares into his eyes. Mary is clearly engaging in workplace flirtation which Tim is encouraging.
Ending Thoughts: Though many women may be encouraged to engage in workplace flirtation as an advantage over her male colleagues, it is not productive behavior. Workplace flirtation can make the work environment a less honest environment. Women may be hired or promoted for the wrong reasons, especially if the a male executive thinks they have a chance for an office romance. (Farrell, 1993, p. 299)
