Sexual Harassment is repeated sexual advances to an employee after said employee has rebuffed the previously sexual advances. (Farrell, 1993, p. 299)
Scenario: Tim really likes Mary and keeps asking her out to dinner. Mary has a boyfriend and is not interested and has already told Tim no. Tim cannot seem to accept that Mary is not interested and feels that if he keeps asking Mary out then she will say yes. Tim is sexually harassing Mary.
Ending Thoughts: If an employee want to pursue a sexual harassment suit then they need to make sure that they have proof of rejecting the advances (Farrell, 1993, p. 299). On a personal note the person who is committing the sexual harassment may not be aware that they are crossing any bounds, it is important for the sexual harassed to be direct in their refusal and consciously avoid encouraging any untoward behavior, not that the victim should ever be blamed.
